If you claimed a thoroughbred race horse through a thoroughbred claiming race in Ontario and the horse you claimed must be humanely destroyed within 24 hours of the race due to injuries sustained, you are eligible for financial assistance through the Claiming Protection program which reimburses Owners for up to half of the claiming value of the horse up to $32,000.
