The Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario
Work in Ontario Horse Stables Survey
You are invited to participate in a research study. The purpose of this study is to better understand stable work in Ontario. There is a shortage of data about stable work and the equine industry in Ontario.
You are asked to participate in an online survey which should take 20-30 minutes of your time. The surveys are open to:
a) those working for pay in horse stables in Ontario;
b) those who, in the past, have worked in horse stables in Ontario; and,
c) those who own or operate horse stables in Ontario.
This survey is anonymous. Your identity will not be known to the researcher. Only general identifiers such as age, gender, and region will be collected to provide demographic context. Data will be accessed by the primary researcher and research assistant only and stored in a locked office. It will be destroyed when the principal investigator retires (approximately 30 years).
Participation in this study is voluntary. If you wish, you may decline to answer questions or stop completing the survey.
PUBLICATION OF RESULTS
Results of this study may be published in academic publications and presented at conferences, and a public report will be created. The study will also contribute to a larger pool of data for Dr. Coulter’s research on humane jobs. See www.brocku.ca/kcoulter and www.humanejobs.org for a list of publications as soon as they are available.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS AND RISKS
Possible benefits of participation include greater scholarly, public, and industry understanding of the benefits and challenges of stable work. Publications may include recommendations for employers, the equine industry and community, and/or government. There are no known or anticipated risks associated with participation in this study.
