In this first Queen’s Plate episode of At the Gate, Norm Borg interviews two Queen’s Plate trainers – Josie Carroll and Roger Attfield. Josie Caroll, looking for her second Queen’s Plate victory trains 3 year old filly, Inglorious (Hennessy-Noble Strike) for Vern and Donna Dubinsky’s Donver Stable. Inglorious was the Queen’s Plate’s 4-1 Winterbrook favourite back in March 2011 and she went postward as the 8-5 choice in the Oaks on June 1st. Inglorious was purchased at the CTHS Select Sale in 2009 for $90,000 and was bred by Jurgen Schemmer’s Arosa Farms.
Trainer, Roger Attfield is one of Canada’s most accomplished horsemen, having trained a record – tying eight Queen’s Plate winners, looks to make the 152nd Queen’s Plate is ninth win and the one that breaks the tie with Harry Giddings Jr . Attfield trains Check Your Soul, a Chuck Fipke homebred by Perfect Soul out of Unchecked. Check Your Soul has one 3 of his 4 lifetime starts and is the favourite going into the Plate having successfully contested the Plate Trial on June 5th.
