About the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA)

The Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario (HBPA of Ontario) has represented Owners and/or Trainers of thoroughbred racehorses since 1950. Membership in the HBPA of Ontario begins when you become licensed with the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) as an Owner and/or Trainer. There is no membership fee.

National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association – Mission Statement

At the 1996 summer convention in Dallas, the National HBPA created a formalized mission statement for the organization:

  1. Provide insurance services to members.
  2. Disseminate vital information on critical issues to horsemen and promote exchange of ideas and information.
  3. Promote the development of threshold levels for therapeutic medication.
  4. Provide a national voice for horsemen on matters of national policy and of national interest. Assist individual affiliates with particular problems. Promote the preservation and enhancement of live racing in North America.

The Canadian Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association has a national office in Vancouver and provincial offices located in Calgary, Toronto, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

The Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario has three offices for the convenience of its members:
